South LAC: you said we did
The South has a community plan based on what local people have told us matters to them.
Our 6 priority areas are:
- environment and green spaces
- transport and highways
- crime and community safety
- communities
- employment, skills and business
- children, young people and families
Over the past year the South LAC has worked with our local communities to develop and support an extensive range of projects.
This is Woodseats
We’re developing, exploring and delivering a variety of collective group ideas to create a more vibrant high street with residents, local businesses and the community representatives from Woodseats, with the support of a project manager.
After being unsuccessful in applying for the economic recovery fund in 2023, we allocated £25,000 worth of funding to support the project group.
The project so far has delivered:
- 4 new benches along Chesterfield Road
- refurbishment and re-planting of 11 planters along Chesterfield Road and Abbey Lane
- 12 blue plaques installed at historical sites of interest in Woodseats, forming the Woodseats History Trail
- support for 2 local events; the Woodseats Festival and Woodseats Live
- future plans (with a further £20,000 match funding secured)
- developing a Woodseats brand and marketing scheme such as lamp post banners and a website
- street art (to be installed)
- a food festival for Woodseats
- more high street enhancements, with a focus on 'greening' Woodseats
- a green festival for Woodseats, celebrating the many community groups that are working to enhance our environment

Revitalising Jordanthorpe
After being unsuccessful in applying for the economic recovery fund in 2023, we allocated £30,000 worth of funding to support the Revitalise Jordanthorpe project.
The project is a partnership between the South LAC and Jordanthorpe library, with the support of a project manager supplied by the LAC and funded by ERF.
The project so far has delivered:
- renovation of the existing benches on the precinct
- a Christmas lighting scheme in 2023
- repainting of all the canopies and railings
- Future plans (with a further £10,000 match funding secured):
- Christmas lights 2024
- a landscaping scheme for the precinct
- murals to be installed
- hanging baskets for the shop fronts
- playground markings to be installed on the paving

Street art
Together with young residents, community groups and businesses, we’ve been working on a series of street art projects in neighbourhoods across the south of Sheffield.
We know that public art has great benefits, it’s a way of celebrating local communities, it can improve our health and wellbeing, plus it reduces graffiti!
Lowedges Community Capacity Building project
We have funded a project that aims to engage with all the key stakeholders working in the Lowedges area.
This project is being shaped by local workers and volunteers to further support and strengthen their own visions and goals.

Heeley City Farm Dementia Garden
South LAC funding was granted to the farm for the purpose of improving their dementia garden. The funding allowed them to create a welcoming space that’s used for a range of different activities such as:
- woodwork
- environmental activities
- cooking
- animal care
- food growing and more
The project enabled them to demolish the old cabins, and they’ll create new paths making the site more accessible and uplift the appearance of the area.
