The bug hotels

50 bug hotels have been lovingly hand made for us by the amazing Percy Street Collective using homegrown British Larch. This has been one of the most exciting ways we’ve found to boost biodiversity and awareness of caring for wildlife in the community.

The bug hotels are designed to provide mini-beasts with a safe and cosy place to shelter, rest, and thrive.  With a variety of nooks and crannies, they are perfect for attracting a range of insects from woodlice to solitary bees. Different guests will move in depending on the position of the hotels. Damp and cool areas attract woodlice, while sunny spots are ideal for bees.

We are distributing the bug hotels to schools and libraries across the South West LAC area. This will help to increase wildlife habitats and awareness among children and the wider community.  It’s a simple and heartwarming reminder of how we can care for nature and wildlife in our everyday spaces.  In return, we ask that hotel owners take good care and send us updates and photos of the bugs enjoying their home.

Percy Street Collective

This project is possible thanks to the wonderful Percy Street Collective, a not-for-profit organisation supporting young and neuro-diverse people in Sheffield and South Yorkshire

Percy Street Collective creates handcrafted products like street planters, benches, bird boxes, and of course, bug hotels. They focus on sustainability and craftsmanship, using British Larch and other locally sourced materials.

We’re proud to be working with them on this project, and we can’t wait to see how the Bug Hotels will bring new life to spaces.
