Richmond Pond is Back! A Special Day for the Community

On Tuesday 11 June, the East Local Area Committee held a grand reopening event for Richmond Pond, and it was a great day for everyone. There was free ice cream, live saxophone music, and a ribbon cutting by the Lord Mayor to celebrate the occasion.

Richmond Pond is a well loved local spot, known for peaceful walks, pond dipping, and picnics. But over time, the pond became full of weeds and silt, making it hard for plants and animals to grow and live there.

Thanks to funding from the Community Infrastructure Levy and support from the East Local Area Committee, the pond has now been restored. The work was completed by specialist contractors Wildscapes CIC, and the pond is already starting to refill with water. Wildflower seeds planted around the pond are also beginning to grow, helped by the recent rain.

Local people have come together to help care for the area. With support from the East LAC and the Sheffield Parks Team, a new group called Lovely Fishponds has been formed. They will help look after the pond, support wildlife, and keep the space looking its best.
